Living Clipboards are a Dunedin/Wellington New Zealand group comprising members from The 3Ds and Look Blue Go Purple (Denise Roughan), Mark Williams (MarineVille) and Jim Abbott (Ghost Club). They really do sound like a sum of their previous bands and then some. At times I can also hear Hamish Kilgour/The Great Unwashed.
Which is interesting since I also saw that Paul Kean posted a song from The Archers - one of his many side projects. This side project consisted of Hamish and Lisa Siegal (Mad Scene) and Kaye Woodward and Paul Kean (The Bats, Minisnap). There is only a single track currently available, but Paul promises to keep cleaning up the songs which were were recorded "one cold winter".
Living Clipboards was mastered by Tex Houston and is available from Burning Log, a label based in Wellington, New Zealand.

id be interested in seeing you rank plane emojis from different platforms (by their livery, or by whatever else) just for fun, if you want!
You're right. I WILL do this for fun, because this is fun. Not based on livery, since they're mostly white with blue wings - just how much I like them. I'll be adding a rating out of 10 for each one because I think that's the tradition for this sort of thing.
Apple - 4/10
Tumblr media
I mean, because I have an iPhone this is my default conception of an airplane emoji - I think it's fine, I just find it a bit offputting how they model the individual flaps and cockpit windows but the rest of it is a white airbrushed tube. It's a weird contrast.
It's fine, I think. Acceptable. I maybe think emojis by default aren't the most aesthetically pleasing.
Google Noto Color Emoji - 4.5/10
Tumblr media
I think this is a slight improvement over the Apple version because of the more consistent stylization. It's also a little more contemporary, since most airliners that are flying now have two engines. I like that they added a few windows and highlights to keep the cabin interesting, and I think it's a bit...something that they took off the flaps but added flap track fairings. Cockpit windows look awful though.
Samsung - 2/10
Tumblr media
This is a bit more of a realistic shape for an airplane but for some reason I don't like it. Maybe it's the fact that you can barely recognize that there's a tailfin at all, or the cockpit window looking weirdly...shiny? I think what gets me the most, though, is that those engines look like Super Mario pipes.
Microsoft - 1/10
Tumblr media
She's a little...phallic somehow. I just think a top-down view of an airplane is almost always going to look worse if you make it super round and blobby. On the bright side, it's still recognizable as a plane.
WhatsApp - 7.5/10
Tumblr media
I really like the way this one is red. Way to stand out in a crowd. It's also quite realistic without giving up on being stylized. My one issue is with the cockpit windows, which look a bit out-of-place and weird. This seems to be a common point of failure for this sort of emoji. Also, I'm unsure if this is meant to be a two-engined 747, but if it is points off for those not existing.
Twitter - 6/10
Tumblr media
I hate to ever hand it to Twitter but this is just solid. That's an airplane, just a very simplified and round one. Even the cockpit windows on this one look okay.
Facebook - 3.5/10
Tumblr media
Maybe airplane emojis with airbrush shading just look bad to me. There's nothing fundamentally wrong with the shape of this but I don't think they differentiated the tailfin from the fuselage enough. It looks like a stub. Also, what is up with that miserably short wing chord?
Telegram - 7/10
Tumblr media
I mean, it looks like a 3D version of the Apple one, but it's surprising how much making it 3D improves it. Plus, gotta hand it to them deciding their emoji was being flown by Tex Johnston. I admire that sort of verve.
Microsoft Teams - 0/10
Tumblr media
On the flipside, animating this one and making it 3D makes it so much worse! It looks like it was made right when people just figured out that 3D animation was a thing that was possible to do, back in the 50s or something. And boy are those pixels crunchy - I wouldn't mind this if it weren't already heinous. Seriously, how is that tailfin even attached?
Skype - 10/10
Tumblr media
Now this I really like. Most of these are impossible to assign a model to but this distinctly looks to me like one of the earlier, stubbier 737s, just really short with a pointy nose, and she's waving at you. Crisp, nice smooth animation, just fantastic.
Twitter Emoji Stickers - 0/10
Tumblr media
Looks bad. One of the few of these which are very easy to recognize as a specific model of airplane - this is clearly a 747, based on the inclusion of the hump. There is a reason basically none of the others are trying to be a 747. Adding a weird lump to the front of your emoji doesn't really make it any less weird-looking, and rendering a plane from above tends to be weird-looking already. It looks like she was stung by a bee.
JoyPixels - 6.5/10
Tumblr media
As with the WhatsApp red, I appreciate anything setting itself aside in color, so I have to compliment the choice of this sort of toothpastey green. This is one of the better simplified airplanes we've gone over today, and the only thing I really dislike is that it has the same issues with the tailfin Facebook does.
Toss Face - 0/10
Tumblr media
I can barely tell this is supposed to be an airplane. It makes me want to, excuse the mental image, toss face.
JoyPixels Animations - 10/10
Tumblr media
Now THIS is what I'm talking about! Just a nice little pixel aircraft, doing the same sort of smooth wriggling as the Skype airplane - no criticisms.
Sony PlayStation - small/10
Tumblr media
Adequate, but too small to really assess further - but the fact that I don't dislike anything about it is honestly a credit at this point.
Noto Emoji Font - 3.5/10
Tumblr media
This just looks like the Samsung emoji but rendered with plain lines. Removing detail from these tends to improve them.
OpenMoji - 0/10
Tumblr media
Oh, no, I take it back! Too few details! It's like a torpedo with wings awkwardly stapled on. A really phallic one at that.
emojidex - what the hell/10
Tumblr media
I think this more or less looks fine, and the livery it has also looks fine, but I'm so thrown off by the fact that I don't think this is a real airplane. I am obviously not an authority on every model of airplane ever built but I'm reasonably sure this isn't a real one. It most resembles a BAe 146/Avro RJ, the only four-engined t-tail plane intended for passengers rather than heavy cargo. But the 146/RJ has high wings, located above the cabin windows, so...what is this airplane? What does emojidex know that they're not telling us?
Messenger - 7/10
Tumblr media
While not ugly per se, it's a bit futuristic for my taste. Still, the choice to model it from a position other than directly from the top avoids a lot of the pitfalls that make many of these so bad to look at.
LG - 4/10
Tumblr media
Boring? Yeah, without question. But this is just a good representation of an airplane, and at this point I'll accept that. Does the tail thing, though.
HTC - 3/10
Tumblr media
Something about the way this is shaped makes this look more like a rocketship than an airplane. Or a Convair Pogo.
SoftBank - 5/10
Tumblr media
A decent pictoral representation of an airplane. See: LG. Fixes the tail thing.
Docomo - 5.5/10
Tumblr media
Also a decent pictoral representation of an airplane, but I think rendering it in silhouette gets rid of many of the pitfalls associated with airplane emojis. No details to mess up, just the shape of an airplane. Why do the majority of these have four engines? Seriously, there are only three four-engine airliners in passenger service right now. Have the people designing these not flown since the early aughts?
au by KDDI - 2.5/10
Tumblr media
Okay, I know I've been saying being a good representation of an airplane is good enough but this is just simplifying too far. This isn't an emoji, it's a unicode character.
Mozilla - 1/10
Tumblr media
Why pointy but only sometimes? Why does the tail pinch in like that? It's ugly, Mozilla, you made an ugly one.

THORNTON GREY, 2.5K TRIS & 256x TEX
Worldbuilding and cg autism under the cut
This is Thornton Grey, a character of mine I've had for around 15 years now. He's from a more or less retired worldbuilding universe of mine, waiting to be either recycled or refactored. Thornton is one of the dearest characters from that setting (and in all honesty, one of my dearest characters in general) and I tend to keep him in my current brain palette of little men to doodle in various formats.
I've been doing these early cd-3d (aka psx /ps1 etc) styled models for some of my OCs with hopes of eventually ?? learning godot. I guess. I need to get my worldbuilding out to the world so it become property of the grand creative consciousness, aka to affect people with my art the same way people affected me.
The tri count is higher than many people tend to target for this style and i'll probably improve that over time as I make various kinds of assets related to my worldbuilding, but eh who cares lol. The textures are photobashed stock images with details painted over and posterized in photoshop.
Here's some bonus 'march of progress' of my art of him over time.
Tumblr media
Lore? Well, many of my characters start out with me being bored or annoyed by a specific trope in media, and he is no exception. He's a few things, but primarily he's my take on the 'little pinocchio robot boy/man who wishes he was a Real human'. Thornton's character addresses more so the preoccupations we as humans have to classify and categories types of people or non-people.
The universe, with the codename Redverse, is set approximately 1920s/1930s alt-earth america. He was child to a pair of grandmaster clocksmiths in the early 1800s whom could not have children of their own, and spent decades producing an analog AI composed of millions of intricate gears assembled with a small cube which composes his brain. He has a small boiler in his trunk that provides power for the various hydraulic systems within his limbs and keeps his brain's clockwork properly wound.
After caring for his elderly parents until their deaths, he took his father's trenchcoat and gun and traveled the country. (why is his gun a german luger? i don't know, i was like 17. it looks cool.)
Tumblr media
Computers, robots, ai, etc, are not really a thing in this universe, granted the targeted vague time period. So he's generally regarded by others as an advanced automaton (he basically is.) and as a curiosity. He however has no qualms about being artificial in nature, as he sees it, he has all the makings of the average man -- has parents, has to eat (hard coal for his boiler), and can love. To view him as nonhuman baffles him, and his matter of fact attitude about the issue tends to win over many people he gets to know. Regarded mostly with respect for his kind and empathetic nature within the communities he spends any amount of time in, he's eventually pulled into the underworld of armed resistance forming against the increasing power of a fascist authoritarian regime that has quickly possessed control of the tumultuous american politics.
A tl;dr of this universe is "but what if AMERICA was the nazis". Very clever 17yo me. I'm sure you had a shock of your life when you grew up and learned about america's rancid role in world politics. Thus the retirement and possible refactoring -- I think it can be a compelling alt history universe if I actually learn more about how do to it properly, if i ever revive it. I'm not the first person to do it but maybe I can offer something interesting if at least for the setting of a noir style vibe game.
Anyway, Thornton becomes very involved. So involved, in fact, he becomes essentially the poster child of the resistance movement. And is targeted for it.
Widely hailed as a martyr for his subsequent demise, the resistance movement gets his hands on his thankfully intact head and revive him the best they can. He is unfortunately damaged, and upon revival, starts channeling visions from beyond.
Tumblr media
And that is about as far as I got with his story. Perhaps you will see more of him in the future.

Fixing The Texas Chainsaw Massacre sequels
Lets be honest. The franchise is a mess and it's never going to reach the heights of the original or even the remake. The 3D timeline is an abomination and 2022 is just awful. I love TCM 2, and 3 has some great bits. But god is 4 embarrassing. So let's try to fix them.
So I looked up Hooper and Henkel's original concept for TCM 2.
It was going to be named 'Beyond The Valley of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre' and originally involved an entire town full of cannibals, not just the Sawyer family. And the Hitchhiker survived and was supposedly tied to a tree by the family due to his injuries. And Sally was slated to return as well.
In my opinion they could've done this for the third and fourth movies.
It would be an easy explanation to have the town of Newt be cannibals and instead of Leatherface suddenly having new family members, he goes to known associates of the family, "neighbors" if you will.
Leatherface somehow survived and is taken in by the Slaughter Family's "Neighbors" the Sawyers.
Chop-Top is the family member who's taken alive.
Those neighbors would be Tex, Alfredo and Tinker.
Leatherface would have severe burns from the grenade and a hole in his stomache.
And instead of Sally, it's Stretch, cause Sally is institutionalized.
Stretch and Benny would work together to save Michelle
In the Next Generation. An easy fix is that.
Leatherface is in the Grandpa role. Gunnar Hansen would return to play him.
The whole "Illuminati" conspiracy is just the town conspiracy of the town cannibals.
There would be a side plot of Stretch meeting Sally. She fills her in on everything that happened. Lefty's death and the cannibal town of Newt.
The new Leatherface is the daughter from TCM3 and instead of being cringey and awful, she is completely and utterly unhinged and enjoys it more than Bubba ever did. The best part? She's takes her doll's name, Sally. The final mockery of the one who got away.
Vilmer and W.E are the other members of this new family with the Mayor of Newt as the matriarch and she bares the conspiracy for all to hear. Claims that "cannibalism is the trade and life stock of this town. Always has been. The Slaughter Family was the backbone, they inspired the rest of us."
And then a returning Chop-Top as the guest of honor.
An aged Bubba makes happy cannibal noises at his brother's arrival.
"Far out Bubba, you're the new Grandpa!"
Chop-Top tells Bubba and the new Leatherface "it's time to kill the fucking bitch"
Stretch comes to the rescue and blasts the family, killing W.E, Vilmer and head cannibal Mayor.
While the new Leatherface chases after Jenny and Chop-Top proclaims he's gonna finish what he started all those years ago.
…and Bubba finally finds the strength to get up. He even puts on the old Pretty woman mask and takes his old chainsaw. They won't get away, not this time. "dog will hunt" as his brother always said. This is for Nubbins. For Drayton and for Grandpa.
They chase Stretch, Jenny and Michelle throughout the town. The slaughterhouse, the old Slaughter farmhouse and the mental hospital where Sally is waiting for them.
It ends with Jenny and Michelle double teaming killing the younger Leatherface, Sally shoots Bubba in the chest with a shotgun and Sally saws his fucking head off and finally, Stretch kills Chop-Top
"Any last words?"
"The saw is fami-" Stretch shoots him in the head.
Stretch, Michelle, Jenny and Sally all leave from a safe distance. Stretch gets a call on her walkie talkie from Benny
"Are you safe? over"
"Yes, I got Michelle and the latest survivor and even Sally. We're all at a safe distance to watch the fireworks over"
"Good, over"
and Benny presses the button and suddenly the entire town of Newt blows the fuck up. A result of Benny planting C4 all around the town of Newt and finally ending the Cannibal town.
End of franchise
This is a neat way to end the series, or at least the original timeline Cause
the original timeline never declines in quality.
Leatherface stays consistent in the first three movies, passes down the saw to his adoptive daughter and returns for one final massacre
All the survivors return for one final confrontation with the town
Chance for All-American Massacre to happen
One big family reunion
And a proper conclusion to the franchise...that will never be fucked up by shitty sequels

I woke up from a nap and found out one of the foundational pillars of my youth shut down. Damn.
Rooster Teeth was my lifeblood as a teen, and I’ve been a fan from the first time I saw Tex vs RnB’s. RWBY is what made me starting writing. I remembered the exact time I started actually writing down my ideas, Feb 2, 2015 at 3:52 pm after confirmation study, a day after I learned Monty passed. It was a RWBY OC fic that I stopped after I remembered their words to stop focusing on other people’s work and work on your own to build your own brand. I still have it- the writing is meh though -and my first drawings were RWBY characters like the ones below. I owe my artistic creation to that. Maybe I'll post that first fic one day too.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
That gave me the time to build up a portfolio of original writing that I will soon be publishing online for myself. It inspired me and still does to this day as I enjoy RWBY and hope it will be finished.
I still listen to Gold, the music from RWBY just inspires such a sense of love from me. It can make me well with tears- which is not something easy do. I was apart of the RWBY WIKI! Back when we called Yang Yellow, and speculated White would be a cold high lady type and not girlfail. The Speculation House was my house. It was the first time I posted anything on the internet.
AND I CALLED IT BACK IN 2013- I CALLED SALEM AND OZPIN- ONE MAN WITH MULTIPLE SOULS A WOMEN WITH NONE!!! I CALLED IT AND EVEN HAD A POST I MEANT TO MAKE BUT I WAS TOO SCARED!!! SIX YEARS AHEAD!!!!!!
Anyway I was a superfan like from 2013-16 I lived and breathed the company, I watched every video, every channel, every podcast, I lived and breathed it. From Cow Chop, Sugar Pine, Funhaus, Gamefails etc. Achievement Hunter was why I came home from school to watch videos. I remember why RTX was a fandom wide event, and every single panel had mind-blowing information about something I loved. I was there for the first GTA V gameplay, and the first video on Let's Play. I have such a distinct memory of sitting down one Friday after school with a bowl of chef boyardee on a cheap white desk covered by a blue rag and chipped dark blue bowl, looking up at the ps3 3d wall-mounted tv, and watching the first Capture the Tower in Minecraft with such glee. It was my childhood.
I followed the King AU fan comic series on here and the FAKE AH crew AU. I was that heavy into it.
I READ A FEW REAL PEOPLE FICS. I was that deep. I've never done that for anyone else even in my deepest fandom days.
I remember being so excited when them and Yogscast paired up, they being another pillar and like them I am still a fan. Those TTT episodes are something special to me.
Like any company it had its flaws, and I remember every single controversy. Every. Single. One. God. I've diminished to someone who just keeps up with podcasts like F**ckFace and Red Web but I still called myself a fan. It was a foundation for me and a stabilizing influence when I was younger. I sincerely hope that the talented people there get help for this.
It only inspires my hatred of Warner Brothers more.
It actually does feel like a chapter has closed and I don't know how to feel about that.
Anyway here's Gold for your heart.

(Archive) Animated movie of the day: Who Framed Roger Rabbit (1988)
Originally posted: January 10th, 2022 Few animators have contributed so much to the craft as Richard Williams. Writer of The Animator's Survival Kit(an absolute, utter MUST read for any aspiring animator), his dominance of perspective is the stuff of legends. Things you see nowadays animated through the assistance of 3D imagery such as camera shifts in moving environments he could animate by hand. And this exceptional capability was put to the test in one of the most complex animated features ever.
While technically a live action film, this movie has as much if not more animated footage given cartoons are integral to the very plot. Rather loosely based on the much darker "Who Censored Roger Rabbit?" novel, this movie is as much of a classic cartoons fan's biggest fantasy as it was a production nightmare, involving characters from classic Fleischer studios, Tex Avery(aka MGM), Warner Brothers and Disney. And it incorporates them in the real world interacting with humans. With a moving camera and scene appropriate lighting. Even with today's technology that is one daunting task, let alone with traditional compositing techniques(Jessica Rabbit's dress was one particular headache).
But of course, impeccable animation and fanservice to animation enthusiasts can only do so much for a film. Fortunately, this movie does have a backbone to it's zany antics. Playing half a buddy cop film, half a noir film, it presents a compelling enough crime mystery that also involves a surprisingly human protagonist in Eddie(and not just because he's an actual person). Bob Hoskins manages to thread the balance between the comedy and the genuinely tragic backstory of his character, making the seemingly absurd premise work. Same goes for Cristopher Lloyd. He's a lovable goofball as Emmet Brown, but here he's genuinely terrifying.
While a resounding success, given that stars had to align to even make this film possible at all, we'll never see something like it again.

Creating Animated Wallpapers with 3D parallax (Gyroscopic parallax) Like Apofiss. (Adroid)
See this here??? Example Here. Do you wanna make something like this? Skip the colored text if you want to get to the meat of the information. Do you ever just see something really cool on the internet, and go "Hey! I mostly have the skills to do this! All I'm missing is a quick guide on how to achieve certain affects!" And then proceed to spend the next two days scrounging the internet for answers but find absolutely nothing? Yeah... That was me. I only just now figured out how to do it, and that was after giving up on this potential project twice. In my particular case, I saw a neat little wall paper running around by the artist Apofiss. I love this creator's work, and I think they do amazing stuff, but me being me and an artist, I like to put my own personal touches on things, and so instead of just buying a wallpaper, I have to put myself through the pain and misery of incorporating my own art into an animated gyroscopic live wallpaper. Considering if you're here reading this post, you might be like me, and hella annoyed that you've spent hours to even days researching this and haven't found a tutorial that actually helps but instead is a shitty app that barely scratches the surface and doesn't allow you to incorporate animated details into your images that you intend to use a parallax on, and it's likely also because much like myself, you may have been using improper terminology and not scraping far enough down into search engine as a result. What Apofiss created, and what you're trying to pull off is an animated wall paper with a Gyroscopic Parallax. It's not something that requires complex coding, but instead requires a third party app called KLWP (Not sure what the letters stand for, but I find it easy to remember the order they're in because they look like a condensed down spelling of Kool Whip.) Download App Here. This is the only app that I've found that will allow you to include gifs and videos into as layers to your gyroscopic parallax. Here's the video Tutorial I found that teaches you how to set up that animation. Video Here.
Also keep in mind that if you've reached timestamp 1:35 of the video, the video tutorial is 7 years old, so it likely has not been updated to allow animations at the time that person filmed the video, but I can assure you that it is an option. This is my own screen as of 11/5/2023 showing that you can add animated images, you just simply need look for it in the prompt when you go to add items.
Tumblr media
This^^^ is the same settings as this vvv
Tumblr media
Make sure that as you follow the tutorial, you use a gif instead of a regular images for one of the items that way you can see how the thing operates, and when you preview it, have fun tilting around your phone to watch that small little glimmer of hope flare up in your fragile, already broken little heart. Trust me. It's fullfilling. I can answer questions, but I'm still fairly new at this myself. I just wanted to put these resources out here, because it is hard to find a decent tutorial. Your best bet is just going to be to play around with the app yourself and see what you can do. I recommend that you do one of two things to help others who may be struggling with this as I have. 1. Spread it around to people who have asked these same questions and never got answers. 2. If this post sucks and you can make a better, more cohesive tutorial, make one and spread that around. This is Tex, yall have a wonderful rest of your day, and happy live wall paper making.

Note
This might be a dumb question, but if the Knight Guard AU were to become a show, what style would you want it in? Would you want it live action or animated, and if animated, what style?
ohh Anon my college thesis was basically "lemme tell you why animation is SO IMPORTANT TO ADULTS AND CAN TEACH US THINGS" SO NO THIS IS NOT A DUMB QUESTION. I think I'd always imagined KGA as an animated series--leaning toward a mixture of Don Bluth with Atlantis mixed in. A TINY bit of animated Beetlejuice with Tex Avery for the Marionette. (His mask is mostly unmoving except in extreme situations, so making him more fluid everywhere else would stand out nicely I think against the other animatronics.) Hand drawn but mixed with 3D elements as needed. If you've seen An American Tail, the Mouse of Minsk is how I picture the elements of creepy.

Red vs. Blue: Restoration
Writing this as I watch, Spoilers ahead
Doc and Wash's conversation feels like an exposition dump, and I can't tell if it's because Wash is being interrogated or the dialogue really is that clunky.
THE AIS ARE BAAAACK. Also poor Tucker, being conscious through it all and knowing Sigma wants to kill him.
I feel like Church's animated explanation feels kind of out of place, not because it's not something he would do but because it feels so modern compared to where the Chorus reds and blues left off. Like it feels more like a dig at the audience than a joke in universe because up until this point they got by with verbal explanations. It would have felt more natural for Church to day "Since we don't have time for you guys to not understand, I made a video" instead of "Since no one can understand anything without fast moving pictures" (or whatever the exact line was).
Also, Church's inability to predict what Caboose says is so funny.
This whole thing is just Valhala and the hunt for the director all over again. Which is fine because at least there's no cyclops. This isn't a complaint, just an observation.
Anyways Church should have withheld Omega, not the memories of why combining is such a dumb idea. Like, one of the pieces that build the basis of his sanity (I.e Delta, Theta, ect.)
Was the pilot supposed to be 479er?
Lmao, Simmons getting "Shut up Caboose"'d and Caboose apologizing.
Caboose still has the confetti gun!
"It looks more like they're making fun of the last four years, which is fine because that's what it started as" -my dad, who I agree with when you look at it like that
Anyways, that was prompted by the security team working from home, which was a funny bit
It was 479er! Pretty sure the VA is different, do love her re appearance.
Love Tucker taking control, Caboose telling him not to blame himself, and Sarge going back was a really nice sequence.
... THEY KILLED SARGE, NOOOOO. I mean, I guess it's character growth for him but... the idiots were all supposed to leave together.
Why does Blood gultch look a bad 3D rendering?
Griff finally got discharged and he stuck around!
It kind of feels like this was roo focused on being the end. Like that campfire scene? It was cute, and the memories were nice, but it felt too final.
Nothing will beat Church's hero speech, but Caboose's speech? The story of Allison and memory? Definitely a favorite
It's also fitting that Tex and Carolina took Meta down, along with the reds and blues, because the Meta exists because of them. And it tormented them. It was their closure, and Carolina getting to fight with her mother made it necessary and not just a rehash of Alpha letting Tex go and the director dying. Also, Tex finally got to do what she wanted. She got to choose her fate.
Also, that twist with Doc made that clunky conversation make more sense. Seeing the freelancers made me happy, and holy fuck finding out Doc was dead was sad.
Wait, I never saw past s16, is one a reference to something? Also, one sounds like 479er, is that the real 479?
Tucker’s after credit scene was sweet... Bow-Chika-Bye now!
All in all, this wasn't a bad finale. I definitely think it would have been better as episodes because the tone wasn't consistent enough for a movie, those Wash bits early on felt a bit shoehorned in. But I don't really think anyone's characters were butchered, even Sarge dying is understandable.
Red vs Blue is about cycles, and this put an end to them all. The AIs are gone, Wash isn't letting the memories of the dead control him, Sarge isn't stuck in endless search of battle, and Griff is free of the military.
The show definitely isn't worse off with this finale, and the memory speeches (both Caboose's and Carolina/Wash's halucinations), are definitely in the top 3 with Church's hero speech for me. I am kind of glad they did this though, because the end of s13 did sort of imply that the AI fragments would be back and this finally and truly put them to rest.
EDIT: I FORGIT THE MOST IMPORTANT PART! Tex being able to kick Meta's ass because she was the Reds and Blues memory and not Alpha or Leonard's was a nice touch. I thought when Caboose was telling the story of Allison it was because it was such a huge driving force for Chruch, but it was because it was Tex and she needed to know who she was.
